Science and research activity of  Volga Region State University of Service is being carried out nowadays according to the National Project "Education" and work program for 2011.

Strategic direction of development of  VRSUS science research is activization of Science and Research Work (SCW) as the main component of pedagogical activity and professional growth of each teacher, development of science and art within the science research and creative activity of the staff and students, scientists and teachers training for higher qualification, effective use of educational, science-technical and innovative potential of university for solving social and economical, scientific and science-technical problems of country, region, city.

For realization of this purpose it is necessary to solve the following tasks:

• Getting and introduction of new knowledge;
• Forming and development of scientific teams and schools;
• Making creative groups from the high-qualified staff for participation in science and research programs of solving social-economical and science-technical problems of the city, region and country;
• Providing unity of educational and scientific processes;
• Training well-skilled specialists, scientists and teachers of the highest qualification on the basis of new achievements of science-technical progress;
• Making high-technology production and competitive samples of new technologies oriented on the high technologies market;
• Development of innovation activity;
• Making conditions for intellectual propriety and authors rights protection as the basis of strengthening and science developing and science staff presentation on the world market of high-technology production;
• Spreading of international science and science-technical cooperation with foreign institutions and firms within the purpose to enter the world system of science and education and mutual development of scientific production;
• Making new experimental base of the university;
• Participation of the university departments in the competitions of grants for science and research work and innovative projects according to the priority directions of science researching in RF;
• Presentation of different international conferences, seminars, Olympics and other scientific actions on the basis of Volga Region State University of Service;
• Opening department of doctoral studies and specialized Councils for confirmation of dissertations due to appropriate direction of science activity of the university;
• Formation of conditions for making and protecting the products of intellectual propriety of the university on the local and foreign market;
• Active introduction of science activity results on the international, federal, regional levels using modern tools of tele- and mass media;
• Further accumulating science potential with the purpose of keeping and strengthening basic definite character of science for high school developing;
• Representation and active participation of scientists in the state associations;

Creating problem science and research laboratories (PSRL) and creative workshop according to the main directions of scientific activity.

Science researches of the university staff are meant to carry out within the framework of 7 science branches: economical: group of specialties - economics and management of national facilities due to the branches and spheres of activity; specialties - services sphere; innovation management; technical sciences: group of specialties - electrical technology; specialty: electro-technological complexes and systems; group of specialties - instrumentation technologies, metrology and information-measuring devices and systems; specialties: devices and methods of displaying and sound transformation; information-measuring and management systems (due to the branches: service); philological sciences: group of specialties - linguistics; specialty: languages of of foreign peoples (Europe); sociological sciences: specialties: social structure, social institutions and processes; sociology of culture and spiritual life; sociology of management; historical sciences: specialties: Russian History; historiography, source study and methods of historical research; pedagogical sciences: specialties: theory and methodology of professional education; theory, methodology and organization of socio-cultural activity; art criticism: specialties: graphic and arts and crafts and architecture; technical aesthetics and design.

The science branches above pointed out have a strong basis for further development. Science and Research Center carries out planning, organization and conducting fundamental, applied scientific researches and creative projects in the connection with studying process; registration and report according to SRW - Program of the university till 2011.

VRSUS takes a part in carrying out science works due to the tasks of Ministry of RF Education, science programs, competitions of grants.

VRSUS scientific potential allows to solve modern science and technological tasks on a high science-technical level. The most significant projects of scientists are under protection of invention patents of RF.

On the base of the university the international and regional science-practical conferences of teachers are conducted. The teachers of department "Design and art projection of things" are the members of regional org-committee of International competition "Russian silhouette", of Russian competition "Povolzhsky seasons of A. Vasiliev".

On the base of the university the competitions are conducted for the best students science and research work, among them is the Olympiad on computer sciences, competition of graphical works, economical game "Stock exchange", forum "The young specialist of XXI century", business-game "Investor". The students take an active part in carrying out science work of different kinds.
